    Raj,
From memory it was a standard bodied RS lightweight with a 2.8 RSR motor and racing tyres.
I can go to the archives if you want more.

    Cheers,
    Dennis.

You have probaply read this aready varunan123 (whether by him in this post I am going to refer to, or some book) . But Since he hasn't popped up it. I'll post a repeat of Fryadds post on the Bird in 2005. He has it as a 3L motor :

"Here is an interesting tidbit I just learned:
In July '73 at the initiative of former Porsche racing director and German Automotive Club racing Pres. Huschke von Hanstein, a 3.0L RSR engine was installed in a series production RS at Weissach. The combination of the narrrow chassis, 300 HP engine, and custom tires from Continental produced the fastest Carrera RS of all time, 286 KPH. Driving on the VW test track the 62 year old Hanstein set two new world records and two new international class records:
10 KM from a standing start: 264.3 KPH
10 Miles from a standing start: 260.4 KPH"

Perfection is always quite elusive Raj.

I do wonder what chassis this RS was. The Carrera RS book doesn't say AFAIK.

Huschke was my favorite. What a great guy. He seemed ready for anything Porsche!

    Raj,
You will be interested in this. Seems von Hanstein also set a couple of records with a 914/4 the same day as the M471 Carrera. Someone with a much better grasp of German can verify this.

BTW, what book are the photos you posts above from? Thanks.
