    RFI: 911S cooler

I have a 911S cooler in my car that is not providing sufficient cooling (for track use). It isn't original to the car so in principle I'm not too concerned about removing it. I am curious about the cooler's desirability and really have no idea as to a reasonable asking price. Comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

It functions nicely in normal operating conditions, even with the 3.2 Euro currently in the car. The temps never exceed 190. While I agree the baffling would help, I can't imagine it would make much difference on the track with the battery box and headlight bucket intact.

I would think the main purpose of the backing plate is to protect the cooler from trash and debris. The bits of sand and rubber from the track may be fouling the exchanger or blocking air flow. Just a thought.

    Raj,

That is an insightful quote and I appreciate you posting it. You are correct - there is a lot of good information on this site. My post was motivated by conversations with other people who I trust that agree this cooler by itself was insufficient.

I am also interested in 72 year only cooler I just acquired one from the USA and had it pressure checked/tested before shipping.

I need 2 as I am doing a 72 2.5ST recreation which had twin coolers with cross over lines.

clyde@theboyers.biz if your interested in selling.

I did not realize there was a cooler specific to 1972. How does it differ from the 69-71 cooler?

Slightly larger fittings for the oil lines is the biggest difference.

    Thumbs up

    JR is right....

The small radiator type front coolers were the same from '69 through '71, with 'small' fittings. In '72 the small cooler was the same but the fittings changed to the 'bigger' type. The '73's had the loop (trombone) front cooler with bigger fittings. Therefore the '72 front cooler is unique being the small radiator type with the later bigger fittings....

    Hope this helps

Sorry off topic but if you are doing dual front S coolers with crossover lines, tall 70 series period tyres, low stance then you will need to do considerable fitting of the lines on the passenger cooler. It is a real pain. You can eliminate the problem by running 2 Carrera coolers upside down with the lines coming out the bottom but this does not look so period. Just passing on my recent observations.
