    Hi John:

I never torque mine so I do not know that answer, I just tighten until snug and give it a bit of an extra turn until I feel the crush washer give.

But, today, as I was adjusting my valves and changing my oil I suddenly thought of your question. One possible cause of a leak from these points is either a lack of the sealing (crush) washer or you have two where only one is needed.

Good luck in figuring out the problem.

    John:

You should not need to tighten it too much or you will create a greater problem.

    Recommended torque setting is:

    engine drain plug in sump & oil tank - 31 ft-lbs (42Nm)

Not to quible or try to split hairs with Andyjboy but I asked this same question of my guru and was told 28 ft-lbs was more than adequate. I agree - even that feels like it's tighter than necessary, but I've never had leaks at that setting.
