My old 72 LY ST is now outfitted with FIA approved mods as a homologation for significant race and rally events. The car has race seats, and a more extensive roll cage system, plus fire system...etc. The owner of the original Toad Hall ST uses it for competitive events, which is allowed because he owns the original. He says it handles better and is faster than the original....NICE to know! (It is the one without fuel filler in hood.)

Haha, I paid attention to all the details between both cars, but I hadn't yet noticed the difference with the original!! I must say that I pay attention to the small details, so much so that I no longer see the big ones.

Whoa! How did I miss this plug detail? I'm putting together a center oiling 2.9 with race filter.

Is it a factory part or it looks easy enough to make. Gordon and Gib -- are you willing to pass on the material spec and the dimensions? It sure would be great!

    Gene,
Here is that pic again. I had my local machine shop turn the plug down from aluminum rod material. I drew a sketch with dimensions (don't have it anymore, don't remember the dimensions) and the guy did it very quickly. I tapped it it to be snug, then put a small strap across it anchored into the threaded holes on the cam shaft so it would never come out. Don't know how the factory did it, but Gordon probably does.

Here's the MFI cog wheel sitting on the plug, and the small strap to make sure it is secure. Don't know how the factory did it.

It's a long way from Queen Creek, AZ to Zurich Switzerland, and now it's been 5 years since the LY ST tribute made the trip. It has found a long time home and it is used as a 911 ST should be...in good competition.
