Thread: Curious. Why delete sale price after item sold?

Curious. Why delete sale price after item sold?

Just wondering why people opt to replace the sale price with "SOLD" or delete entirely upon completed transaction. Personally I find keeping prices intact helpful in determining value of item(s).

    Anyway...that's just me.

I with you on this one Bob and I'm guilty of doing it myself for no apparent reason. Call it a habit.
Might be that prices fluctuate so much from seller to seller that no body wants to get called out for gouging? or the seller has a lot of identical parts and wants to have the flexibility of increasing price over time? or someone who buys and sells used parts for a living?

    Just theories

It's something I've never understood either - as you say, being able to check how much parts have sold for is a useful tool.

from the perspective of someone who is new to the 'early' world..it would be extremely helpful if prices etc stayed on the site.
Just try finding the current market value of the 67S side decos....or the 4.5 x 15 Fuchs!

+1 to the above. I've always wondered why people delete the asking price.
Should we vote on a new "policy" to leave the asking price as a reference tool?
Now, posting what the item actually sold for may be another issue all together.

or just vote to have the moderator disallow access to editing to a post more than an hour after it was created? that makes more sense, and there is no monitoring or policing that has to happen.

Something I've never understood either and I always leave the prices in my threads. I even go as far as revising a price in a thread if the buyer and I have negotiated a different price. I want it to remain an accurate data point.

    My take....

Well, I like to be able to edit my thread to the very end. If I lower prices I like it to be seen up front without someone having to wade down thru posts. I also like to reorg a post if I have multiple items so that the sold items are down at the bottom. That way what is still available is right up at the top and easily identifiable.

FWIW, I see this practice in other forums (camera stuff) so I'm not necessarily focusing on the E911SREG. Just makes me wonder is all since it is a great reference for sellers/buyers for all venues such as internet classifieds, swap meets and personal transactions. I simply don't understand the logic in deleting pertinent info when it was listed in the first place.

Posting the actual sell price is totally no one's business and honestly would never expect it...heck some people don't even post their names! Always funny to start off e-communications with hey "uber-rad911-dude" or "hungsolow" or "elfukoyouo".
