    Knocking sound in steering (SWB)

Went under the car the other day thinking it was a sway bar mount, or control arm bushings, all look good. I then found the inner tie rod "articulated bush" part # 914 347 057 00 is loose/bad. My question....are they a PITA to replace? do they screw into the rack?

    Thanks,

    Dave

They screw into the rack and are held captive by large nuts with steel tab lock washers. However, there's a catch-- the bushings are angled, and so the "articulated bush" is installed in the rack at a certain angle. There is an official factory tool to set that angle. Or fabricate a tool to capture the correct angle before the bush is removed.

    Much appreciated!

Dave, I looked on this computer for a photo of Damon's-- he has one up in NH. There is a photo in the factory workshop manual but I don't have THAT handy at the moment either. . . but I promise you dave, it really does exist, it's about two and a half feet long, fabbed out of steel bar stock with some tall rectangular pieces at the end, with parallel pins that hold a couple bolts that go through the bushings.
