FS Porsche 2.2 Nitrided Steel Racing Rods, Factory Matched Set

    Price $1,200

Acquired many years ago from the Vasek Polak racing parts inventory, as a matter of fact, I purchased two "NOS" sets from Carl Thompson, selling one set and keeping the other. The rods are brand new, never used and only taken out of their original bag for photos. These connecting 2.2 steel rods have been "NLA" for years, they are a factory matched set and nitrided.

PS: These are also listed on "FeeBay" at a starting bid of $1,250, and I will cancel that auction as long as there are no bids there http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...STRK:MESELX:IT - Any takers here? These are really a very nice set of special factory NOS steel rods, if you don't need them now, maybe for a future engine build, I'm keeping my 2nd NOS set...

    ...more photos...

...and the rest of the photos. You can email me directly at ajserrano @ msn . com with any questions. Thx!

PS: By the way, what appears as 'white chalk' on the third photo below, is simply a 'shiny reflection' and not because this rod was dropped on the concrete. lol

Looks like you have a sale...CONGRATS.

I'm betting you can clear up the technical questions on this related thread...and possibly correct any mis-statements on my part...

Hi Frank, I tried replying to you, but your inbox is full and would not accept any more messages, but I did already reply to the other email you sent me. The rods are yours and I already cancelled the eBay auction as well. We'll talk about the "Preshona" valve a bit later. Thanks again, talk soon! A-

Hi Peter! To make it a bit easier for me, what technical question(s) did you have? I tried taking a cursory read on the thread, but was not exactly clear about what you needed to know. Thx! A-

Is nitrated correct...or should it be nitrided?

I believe is "nitrated", as Bruce Anderson stated in his book.

(this is why I love the web, very easy to correct a post, very difficult to correct a printed book)... lol

Thank you for the correction guys! Without question, you're 100% correct it is "NITRIDED" and not what I originally posted (Nitrated).

    Ditto.

'. . . . Nitriding is a heat treating process that diffuses nitrogen into the surface of a metal to create a case hardened surface. It is predominantly used on steel, but also titanium, aluminum and molybdenum . . . '

Can be done with gas (ammonia), but faster/cheaper by salt-bath (cyanide salt) . . . hence AKA 'pickling' . . .

    Nitration?

Uh . . . that's usually involved with making explosives.
