Thread: Reverse light not operating.

    Reverse light not operating.

I have a bulb that's not lighting. It's my reverse light and the bulb is good and installed correctly. Also, I'm getting power to the socket but the light doesn't come on.

Thanks for your help in advance.

often it is still the bulb....you know there are U.S. versus European style bayonet bulbs? The 9 times out of 10 fix is to bend a paper clip or similar, and grab the contact that touches the center contact on the bulb (it's copper, often it is too far recessed) and pull it farther out.

best bet is to use a test lamp to check power and ground are reaching the terminals, with car in reverse and key on (not running), be careful not to touch the +12v center connector to the outer ground contact (like the kid's game 'operation')

let us know how you do.

Thx Lewis. I've had success with the test lamp with power to the socket and thats the challenge. I'll look into the pulling the contact out further. Thank you for your response.

is the socket and bulb housing clean? i have a little dremel wire wheel that fits in there nicely and that did the trick on mine. i did notice on a couple sockets that the bulb just felt loose in the socket though.
i'm thinking about running a bit of solder around the bulb housing just to snug it up a bit to make a better contact.
