    What is a "Heart"?

I keep hearing about Fuchs with a "heart"

    What does this mean?

The heart is the triangle 'pocket' around the valve stem of an early Fuchs.

Due to inner tubes was the valve stem larger which resulted in the 'heart'. Later wheels were tubeless and have a smaller diameter valve stem.

Compare a 4.5, 5.5 or early Deep 6 w/ a flat 6 around the valve stem 'pocket' and you will see the hear shape pocket of the early wheels.

    Tom,

Think of it as the Bendix Kraftstoffpumpe of the body.

I first heard the term used by the VW crowd as slang for the early (deep) 6s. The heart or valve stem bump as we refer to it, was on all 901 part number wheels 4 1/2-7R. It was used locate valve hole so the manfacturer could time them correctly when put in. (Sometimes they still missed!)In late 70 the bump was machined off (along with other minor machining changes) for the 71MY. So the non bump (non heart) early 6s (deep) were made from late 70 to early 71 when the late (flat) 6s replaced them for the remander of the 71 MY. Making the non heart 6s the shortest production run of the early wheels. In other words it is a slang for the early 6s but not all of the early 6s have it. Go figure.. (SLANG)
