I may be selling a 69S engine complete with the proper MFI. It is free but has not been run in years. Figure a full rebuild. Shroud and case are nice. Any ideas on value? If I posted this in the wrong forum sorry in advance Thanks.

To the right buyer, $20K is my estimate...

as a core in need of rebuild, $5-10k. Lower number to a buyer just looking for a motor, medium number for someone looking for the correct year, $10k region if it is the exact SN matching case for someone.
20k to get it professionally rebuilt if pump, TB all need attention.
Help ma they're gunna wash my car
Look for the chassis owner....worth loads to him/ her.
was thinking....what is the difference in value between a numbers matching S vs not. I was told that its 10%. So, whatever 10% of what a 69S is worth (factor in the condition of the motor)...
This just stinks. Remind me never to buy something off you. So what if somebody owns the
correct chassis for the engine, to you that just means extract every $ you can from the bloke.
If a club member did happen to have the original chassis that's a reason to give them a break,
not to get into them for every cent.

I was just offering a suggested way to figure out the value of the motor...and...I too am on the look out for the correct motor for our 67S. Didn't mean to offend you.
Very few folks out there are going to cut a good deal for someone in need of a "numbers matching" engine. I would try to make a fair deal myself as I need the good karma
Most sellers are going to find it difficult to pass up several thousand extra dollars just to be a "nice guy" when such a situation presents itself.
Oh, I say $8-$10K if you can ensure the engine might run w/o a $15K rebuild.

Finished my 69S engine in 09. Sticking a 2.7 liter oil pump in it, rebuilding he MFI, Nickies pistons on original honed cylinders, matching numbers, magnesium major components still in good shape, and a couple of mods, like securing the far end of the crank instead of letting it free spin, and a couple of other minor upgrades like newer tensioners and I was around $10K. I was shooing for 8, but "stuff happens." You are staring at it pulled apart, and thinking that now is the time to do it. Beats ripping it apart and doing it again. Get someone who has experience with these engines, not a VW expert. This isn't a bug engine. A lot of bug (Beetle) experts say it's same ideas, but they give you that blank look when you start getting into the MFI and throttle body rebuilds. I went with a guy that had 35 years experience with air cooled Porsches when I did mine, and I never looked bad. I'll be seeing him next week on the way to Monterey for some MFI adjustments.
