Do you have a photo of top cap portion of the strut?

Is this an empty strut or is there a shock rod hidden inside the strut body?

You can most likely ignore the RSR comment above...but it is a Bilstein Strut...

Is that a 1988 date stamp?

It is a Bilstein strut. the measurement from the bottom of the strut to the bottom of the spindle body where the numbers are stamped will tell you if it has a stock location or not. I have seen rally struts where they go down with the spindle for more ride height instead of raising the spindle for circut use like RSR. Gled
