    Mystery hood questions

My car was in an accident and just had the hood replaced. The car is a backdated '86 Carrera but the hood I had on it before the accident was from a '73 911. It had 2 luggage compartment lights and the usual wrinkly finish on the underside.

However, I just got the car back from the collision repair place and noticed it has only one luggage compartment light, a smooth paint finish underneath (this isn't a surprise as the shop mentioned it to me a month ago), and there is a slot on each side behind the rubber bump stops. The left side does not have a hole for the compartment light, but the outline of the hole is in the metal stamping.

Can anyone tell me from what year of 911 or 912 this hood came from? I ran across this thread -> http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...-hood-question that indicates it MAY have come from a '68 912, but the question was never answered.

    It's not from a '68 912.
I have one and saw several others (as '68 is a particular model year), with stamped out slots on both sides.
Just one side is used for the light, the other one covered by a fiber plate.

One more thing; Is all the hardware in place on the drivers side hinge? The angle doesn't show it well.
Thanks for the responses. It doesn't really matter what year the hood is from, although I would have preferred two trunk lights like the previous one had. I'm just really curious about the origin of this thing because not only does it not have two trunk lights, but the left side doesn't even have a hole for it. My understanding was that the ones that have only one light unit at least have the hole cutout for the second one. On this one, the hole was never there.

I'm also curious about the reason for the two slots by the rubber stops. The color is Oslo Blue, from 1962. I was going for a vintage look.

    Greetings,
My 73 has the same hood that you are showing. One light, passenger side, no provision for a light on the drivers side. My 71E had two lights.

I just looked at a photos of hoods from a good amount of 1971 - 1973 MY cars. You never know if hoods have been changed. But from the amount of examples I looked at.

It would seem that by 1972 MY , the second hole went away (this could actually be very late 1971 MY or sometime in early 1972 MY.

You'd have to examine multiple known survivor paint 1971 - 72 MY cars to asertain for certain . And generally when.

Interesting! So my hood may be a 72 or 73, but it appears it might have to remain a mystery.

I believe that is an Italian-made aftermarket hood.

One other comment. My 1973 has only the left light no right hole and it was a $20 option on my original window MSRP window sticker. So I assume it was STD equipment.

I'm confused what the $20 option is on your window sticker....right side hole delete? Left side light? It can't be standard if the option is listed on your window sticker with a $20 price tag. Also it might help if everyone would mention whether your car is US or RoW, as this could be an important difference.

Sorry, typo, my 1973 window sticker said the hood light was $20 option. There was no mounting features on drivers side.
It was delivered in Atlanta, GA. It was a very high optioned 911T, it listed for $11,565.00, Targa too,

I think the comment before stated they were discontinued after 1971 is correct, my friends 1970 911E has both.
