    Hi

    I been around these cars a very long time. First California cars have great bodies, because dry warm weather. But understand, even these cars are rare to be in a time warp. Yours is very honored to be there.

    Most California cars if not all were driven thus they needed painted and or interior work. For a car to be like yours and mine it must be put away. Period. In fact I found nicer unused cars in the East...because some rare owners never drove them.

    Now, if a bunch of great original paint, interior, bodies show up call me a fool, but again it will not happen.

    To illustrate .....I have a repainted 1969 E car, on the E registry Porsche made a total of about 12,000 of these cars from 1969 to 1973. That is worldwide volume. The club predicts about 50% or more are gone for good. Another 40% modified or reduced leaving a very small percent running....let alone original paint...this is why only 7 cars entered in our class and 2 of the cars had a repaint...because I did a paint check and they scored over 8 thousand paint thickness....oh just cars...

    Yes, per the rules I think paint and interior must be at least 80%. I am not bashing the club or PCA. Great, let everyone show up and yes the stories are great. It's the people not the cars, I get it.....but originally in your class is very small indeed. But who cares...show the car you like...I understand...I enjoyed the show the cars and the people too..

    Such a Small Change But It Says a Lot ...

    After another six inches of snow, I looked at the garage with the 911 covered inside. It has been many weeks since I last saw the S. It is just too much trouble to trudge through the knee-high snow. The old, unheated garage needs to be kept dry.

    Thinking back, the Porsche was never that special to have the garage to itself. There were always two cars in the garage. Sometime during 2012, the sepia 911 became a “princess” and the garage her castle. Now my car sits outside covered more often than not with snow. What was I thinking?

    Then, another thought crossed my mind. The seasons will change and Sepia will emerge. What new adventures are coming our way?

    Looking forward to Spring,

    Pinterest? Etsy?

    While on Pinterest looking at bathroom color schemes, I just happened to search Porsche, then Porsche this and that. The number of photographs of all things Porsche was incredible.

    A 356 in sepia braun, really? And, there was more than one!

    I will check out etsy.com, too.

    Just a bit of silliness for another sub-zero morning.

    Displacement?

    An application for a classic car concours in Michigan asked for information on displacement and horsepower. Had to look up displacement in the owner's manual. Never been asked that before. After researching displacement, I have a vague idea of what it is. But, could not really discuss it. Most of the time, people just want to know the top speed, sometimes horsepower.

    Why is that information important for a concours? Why are they asking for that? Do I really need to be able to talk about it.

    There is still so much to learn about the 911,

    Hello Candyce !

    Just got back from a couple of months in sunny Florida, so have missed many conversations here and on other posts.

    I did not bring a pc with , rather enjoying the freedoms that come with 'fading into obscurity'. Used a few that were not mine to check in from time to time.

    Your photos of the snow covered driveway look much the same as what greeted me as I returned a couple of days ago. It is sad indeed........

    What I suspect the reason for perhaps asking the question of displacement, is to eliminate the chances of 'upgrades' we see happening from time to time. Not uncommon for 3.0 and 3.2 litre engines coming into the picture, but to those who know what to look for, the differences are quite apparent. That and to test the knowledge of the owner.

    Can't imagine anyone pulling wool over the eyes of the owner of Sepia

    and I hope the winter hasn't been too long for you...... as I am indeed gnashing at the bit to get in and just drive, just as many of us here.

    Sepia looks warm under her blankie~~~

    About two weeks ago after the snow started to melt, I opened up the garage and found a puddle of oil beneath Sepia. My stomach clenched. "Awe, what now?" The oil lines are original to the car and I thought they cracked due to age and the extreme cold weather. Ed Mayo explained what he thought could have happened, "This raises the level of oil in the engine case and will leak past the 'oil return tube seals' when the seals get older. (I'm sure yours are the original ones.) Your extreme cold weather hasn't helped, as it tends to contract the rubber seals." That calmed me down.

    Today, I went out to take photos of everything before I cleaned it up. There was no oil in the engine bay. Well, I actually got down on my back and reached underneath, and found some oily spots. I am no longer afraid of getting oil on my hands ... big step forward. The photographs show the shiney, oily spots. What am I looking at? (I know oil can travel anyplace; but thought it might be a dlue to solving the the problem.) Does engine oil damage tires?

    Thankful for the cardboard that absorbed most of the oil,

    ~~~ oh the humanity. HORRORS.
    Sell the car quick. Fire sale it now. Do NOT waste another second.
    My emails and contact number should arrive on your screen shortly......
    Actually, you are driving a normal 911 with about 50,000 miles. Be thankful this didn't leak at 10,000 miles like most did.......
    Take Ed's advice. It is ALWAYS good from Ed.
    ( unless he wants you to sell the car to him first, before me )
    wash it down , change the oil and filter and take a few long drives in it, the seals should expand again. You might need to replace the oil return tubes if the leaks persist. This is why they need to get driven.
    It will probably smoke some too until you burn out any oil that got into the exhaust.
