The owner, Mike, is an artist and works on neighborhood cars. The garage has been in his family for over 100 years. There is a catwalk that connects his house to the garage. Mike paints sunsets with house paint. Maybe he will do a painting of the car? I wonder what shade of brown he would use? The 911 steers me to so many amazing experiences and interesting people.

    Baby Sitter

I am Sepia's baby sitter. Just like a two-year old, there's not too many places or times when she is all by herself. The things I do and the money I spend for that car ...

    Headlight Question and Advice

The bright light on the right side is not working. This is the first time the headlights need to be replaced. I personally won't do the work, but I do need to understand what is going on. According to the book, the 911S has sealed beam headlights. The non-working lamp needs to be removed and the new lamp is plugged in. So that means the entire lamp needs to be replaced. There are no bulbs to replace. Is this the correct way to do it? Does anything else need to be replaced regarding the headlights?

Where is the best place to purchase new sealed beam headlights? Stoddard? Pelican? Other?

Brand for the headlight? It needs to be as original as possible.

Is it a good idea to replace both headlights at the same time?

Am I missing anything I should pay attention to?

    Thanks for the advice,

    No to replacing both lights.

Often your local Porsche Centre can give good or better prices, especially if they give Porsche Club discount, mine gives 10% in parts but that's in Ireland.

In my opinion the sealed beam units are poorer than the H4 s we have here in Europe, if you're allowed these then I'd consider replacing both with H 4s, but only if you drive at night !

Candyce, there is a fuse for each high beam, make sure it's not that simple first. Fuse identification shown on decal under fuse box cover. Look at the brand on the light,,,maybe westinghouse??? you won't be able to exactly match the light, that would bother me, for that reason I'd do both. You might be able to at least find the same brand if nothing else. Major, no argument H-4's are better and look better, but Sepia's mantra is originality, she'll stay with the seal beams. Might find what you want at a NAPA store???

Another great day of taking photos of the brown car.

This is an actual, working garage in Chicago with so much to view and think about.

The owner was a hoot to "car-talk" with.

    So much fun!
From your most recent photo, you still appear to have the sealed beam set up. You may need to replace both if you can't find a matching version at your local parts store. My .02

Your headlights are "H4" replacement headlights. You can just replace the bulb with another H4 bulb. It can be done in a few minutes, unless the screws in your headlight bulb holders are slightly rusted or corroded. Those bulbs must have been installed early in your car's life. I can't place what brand those are but it doesn't matter. Just buy a H4 bulb. They are available just about anywhere.

    Regards

    Jim
