Hello everyone, it has been a long time. I will explain later in this post.

The story of the '73 Sepia 911 is in the September issue of Panorama. Much thanks goes to Randy Wells for the well-written story and the splendid photographs. The little brown car just pops out at you! After I opened it up and read it, I cried. Randy wanted to know what Jim was like. With his words, he told Jim's story. I hope some of you can see yourselves in him.

At the 2018 Parade, Rob Sass approached me about a Panorama article. I knew of Randy from the Registry and I asked to work with him. It was a wonderful experience. The Tuesday after the concourse, we were up before dawn on our way to a gravel quarry somewhere in Missouri. Randy has a great eye and knew details of the car would pop in the morning light. He was so right. The 911 was moved here and there and I drove it around in circles. Great fun!

Tuesday night was the concours banquet. I was up late Sunday night cleaning the car, up before dawn on Monday for the concours, and again on Tuesday for the photographs. At the concours dinner, I left early ... way too tired and I was nodding off.

My favorite thing to do is drive the 911 ... this year especially. Weather permitting, I drive it every Sunday through farm country. It takes your mind off of everything else but the drive.

Several years ago, I left all social media. One man was following me and wanted to purchase the 911. He wouldn't take no for an answer, would show up unexpectedly, always bugging me about the Porsche. I was concerned and thought it wise to shrink my online presence.

But, I have missed the stories and discussions on the Registry, and the information. Sometimes, I lurk a bit.

    I will be back,

Great story in Pano. Brought back many memories from Schonesland and Central Iowa events back in the early and mid '70's as a good friend had a sepia brown 911 and we competed at various events... it was a polarizing colour even back then. To my colourblind eyes it looked fine...

Candyce, great to hear you are well. Mike F and I have missed you this year. Thanks for sharing the story in Panorama. I might have otherwise missed it.

Let me know if you would be interested in the cross-country trip with another S. I can help shoo away anyone looking to buy your car.

    My first ticket

Last winter, I visited my sister, Kathy, in Florida for an extended stay. We had a great time and were able to do quite a bit before the shutdown. On the way to Amelia Island early Saturday morning on a great road with no traffic, I was pulled over for speeding by two Florida officers. One officer walked up to the car and didn't say a word, just took my license and registration information.

When he returned, his first words were "Do you own a Porsche?"
    "Yes, why do you ask?"
"Well, you were way over the speed limit at 94. Did you know how fast you were going."
    "Nope."

Well, I wasn't mad about the very large ticket. It annoys me that I was driving a rental Kia Forte and not a Porsche.

The little Kia had a lot of get up and go.
I didn't know I was going that fast.

The ticket has a place on honor on the refrigerator door.

Wishing I was driving a Porsche.

Thank you for the kind words,
    Candyce

    "Yes, why do you ask?"

Made me laugh this AM. Sorry about the ticket...but this will always be a good story.
