    Accident involving Porsche GT2

    Fatality — Porsche driver reportedly died — one line of enquiry is that he was avoiding a pothole in a public road.

    I got to walk away from this one with just a bruise. Loved my Cayenne.

    Those out driving a Porsche on country roads that have almost no berm or curb area, you wonder how much concern there is among GT drivers, since a number of videos display speeds that seem to indicate confidence. Spring is a nice time to be in a scenic area, but a deceptive situation for car and driver, imo.

    A straight section, but not for long..

    My guess is you have to be going at a rather brisk pace in a GT2 to get any sense of speed. On narrow roads like that you have zero time to avoid an animal, a kid, or a car pulling out from a driveway. Were I like to drive in the mountains there could be a deer or elk around the next blind corner. A new Porsche has airbags and the like. My 67 has the Porsche PING and no door beams, airbags and such. It's a 3 point seatbelt in a tuna can. But I love it and pray to stay lucky.

    The right phrase "sense of speed". If there is a part of the auto industry discussing this.. not likely. Designers and engineers tend to boast of stability at triple digits, which is not insignificant. But finding yourself at 30mph can feel like a yawn fest.

    So sad. That appears to be a high speed crash. It's fortunate that here in Central Oregon we have many opportunities to pick our spots.

    Last week pulled up behind a GT3 Touring with brand new temp tags on it. Older guy and lady in it. He was trying to turn right (on red) onto a (high speed and busy) divided four lane road. After several aborted starts he punched it, right out in front of a big truck. Clearly not used to the power available and so he went more at angle into the road then turning onto the road, then in a panic he slammed on brakes! The truck and and about 15 other cars went swerving around him onto the shoulder and grass like a NASCAR race. When the dust settled, amazingly not a single vehicle was scratched. And then he floored it and took off. 10 seconds later our light turned green...

    Perfect example of Money > Brains. That is a completely different cohort from ours.
