    Paint code 8610 help

My 71 targa has paint code 8610-11 and looks to have originally been a Gemini Blue. I have done several searches and come close, but no exact fit. If I can find the correct code, I can decide to include the color in my paint decision. Otherwise...it will be a roll of the "color dice"

8610 is Gemini Blue Met body and black Targa roof.
What do you mean by -11? "-H" I can understand.

    Dave,
Thanks! The stamp looked like -11, but under closer observation it is in fact H. Why does it list the color of the targa roof as black...was there ever another choice of color for the targa roof?

Good questions. 1970 & 1971 was an interesting period for paint codes. They went away from the year codes, and dropped the paint line prefix. They also decided to split the code for body and roof. So code 86 was Gemini Blue Met and 10 was Black. On a coupe you would find 8686 and on a targa 8610. I have never seen any deviation from this, but it certainly was a possibility. On the 914/6 they used the same code series, but only stamped the 2 digits (okay Raj, I know of one exception), not bothering to add the 10 to everything produced. Why they allowed for this possibility, I don't know. It was dropped, as part of the code, in 1972 when the whole format changed. Has anyone ever seen a two-tone coupe that was properly encoded? Has anyone seen a targa top in anything other than black prior to 1974 that was factory produced?

    Great info...

I appreciate the detailed response. Tempting to stay with the gemini blue w/ black interior...but had my heart set on black...w/ tan interior decisions, decisions.
