Current Porsche Sleepers- 968 CS & other nominations please !

    Greetings all,

What are the current "sleeper" Porsches out there, of any flavours?

I've just come back from my mechanic, who has serviced my car from new. The oil warning light came on last night, and I popped in (1.5 km away) to check what oil to buy for it. He said, just pull it in and we will fill it up for you. Having done so, as I grabbed my wallet he said - no charge, forget it. Fantastic stuff.

Anyway, as he was dipping and checking the dipstick he said- "Cheeeesus you are smart with one of these".

    Oh, I said, why?

"See that Boxster over there- that's an '05 model that has just lunched it's engine with no warning and a new crate exchange engine will be $20k from Porsche." I had heard the Boxsters & 3.4 996's could be trouble.

"These on the other hand are just brilliant, look after it and should never go wrong" he then said.

My car: '94 968 Club Sport.

Now, this thing is a daily driver which I paid a ridiculously light price for; it's my 2nd and I damn well dig them......which got me thinking.

What are the current "sleeper" Porsches out there, of any flavours?

    I'll nominate the 968CS.

My first was one of 14 Aus delivered M030 cars and this is one of 13 Aus delivered 968CS M685 rear seat optioned cars. To drive there is very little between the lauded M030 and the standard CS spec.

The precursor to the 993 RS, in total 60 RHD CS's were delivered here many of which raced and road rallied in period; compare that to only 6 x 964 RS that are today >$A200k if you can find one. My CS cost me a little over 10% of this. It will do 85% of what the 964RS will, so excluding rarity there is a $$ imbalance there I think.

It's really quite quick, is ecomonical, cheap to insure, 'lairy' (if that matters) in it's Indischrot hue and is used as a daily drive. Rear seats with belts mean my 5 & 9 yr olds fit securely and after just on a year of ownership it's rewarded me with reliable transport. Any weekend I choose I can club motorkhana it (haven't yet) hillclimb it (haven't yet) or track it (haven't done this yet either....spare time being the enemy) with little or no preparation, and, then drive it to work on Monday with the kids in the rear seats.

Yeah for this work it should have a rollcage (doesn't) and other tweaks....bit it's kinda nice in ex-factory spec for the driver with a more sporting bent. The very definition of "Club Sport" I guess.

Clearly I've a "light" vested interest in the CS but can anyone name a better current Porsche sleeper?

    Cheers

    Stew.

    Some 968CS images

"Notionally" available in Red, Yellow, White and Maritime Blue, you could actually order a CS in any colour you wished.

White with White Rims & Red decals...a favourite combo of mine, and White with Red Rims and Red decals, mirroring the 1988 911 Carrera 3.2 CS.
