Steve McQueens 911S sold for $1,250,000

3 people battled over McQueens 911S at RM Auctions in Monterey CA August 2011 and it sold for $1,250,000 and it went to Europe.

You can watch my uninterrupted video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3eGb2QcbUM

From what I saw in the auction room, a woman in the audience was a strong bidder throughout, a European phone bidder was the other main combatant (as quoted by the auctioneer).

At around the $1 million dollar bid Bruce Canepa came in with a strong $1.1 million bid but the price kept rising and the phone bidder won with a hammer price of $1,250,000 and after a 10% buyer premium the final price was $1,375,000

The car was on the block for approximately 10 minutes which is a very long time for a single lot to run.... on Saturday Gooding may have beat that time with a 57 Ferrari Testa Rossa which brought a $14.9 million hammer price - a new world record.

** just realized they played a short video too so that added to block time

I was there. Figured $500k to $750k, so definitely was surprising. But no surprise it's going to Europe.

Also saw a 67 911S soft window targa sell for $150k about an hour later at RM Auction. It was red and has been on the site previously. Lots of wrong parts (sport seats from 68, Fuchs painted wrong, rocker panel trim off 73' wood wheel, etc).

We could be losing more cars to Europe with the weak dollar, right? There was a lot of this similar activity a few years ago... dang!

I didn't look at the wood wheel, but a wood wheel was a no cost option. The car was also non number matching, incorrect front rubber, incorrect fog lights, incorrect door handles according to another member (I have too small of a screen to tell), and horror of horrors an incorrect muffler tip!!

It could have many "Incorrect Parts" BUT "One correct" First Owner ! , Mr. Mc Queen itself . They are buying the Car for the Legend not for the parts .
