Thumbs up Forward into the past...

We were staying at the Hyatt Monterey last weekend so on Friday evening I walked out to the golf course where they were staging the Mecum auction. There I saw a car I had not seen in the flesh for over 45 years!!!!!!!!!

In 1965, just before my 16th birthday, I went with some older buddies to the 7th Annual Smokers March Meet Fuel and Gas Championships at Fomoso drag strip outside Bakersfield. One of the highlights was the A/Gas Supercharged eliminations where Mike Bamber in his 'Silver Dollar' '40 Willis pickup did EVERYTHING not to be eliminated by the BIG John Mazmanian's '41 Willis coupe....... it didn't work.

46 years later and what do I see........ Whoa

    - The car
    - The pictures they put with it
    - My race tickets
    - The 'Drag News' I bought a week after I came home in '65

This year's Historics had a nostalgia drag race exhibit at the far end of the VIP parking.........

The last is the engine in a 'rat rod' pick up at the Edelbrock tent...... think that old 348 has enough carburation ????? ......
