    911/83 engine case repair

    Hello,

I have a nice matchings number Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 European version. The car is great. Nevertheless, the engine case needs to be repaired due to a small fissure. The shop tells me at it will be much better to replace the engine case with a Porsche 911sc aluminum case. Will the car loose value with this replacement? What would you do?

    Regards!

If the 911/83 is in a '73 Carrera RS, I would tend to say that replacing it with a 911SC case would de-value said RS...

The cases are not interchangable. You would need the SC crankshaft since the bore spacing is different. I think the 4 bearing cams would be needed and the head stud spacing is different so you would need the SC heads. This would significantly devalue the car.

a little off topic but, are the 911/83 engine cases ONLY from 73 RS's?

I thought that they used those cases in ROW 74-75 Carreras as well?

No, ROW 2.7 Carrera's had 911/83 as well.

    Oh.

RSR used 911/83 based on RS homologation, no? No others.

I have a blank 7R Case, fully machined, available. This was a factory "replacement" case with no serial numbers. This should not devalue the vehicle in any way, preferably as long as you hold onto the original (damaged) engine case and document it.

Contact me if I can help.
