    Bent Lip behind Gas Tank

Does anyone know why some early cars have this lip in the sheet metal bent and folded in? It must be some work-around for a mechanical repair because it doesn't look factory and some cars have it and some don't. My '69 has a folded lip and while I've got the gas tank out I'm thinking of straightening it.

    Thanks!

Don't do it. It is stock. Think it was to keep from rubbing the hose?
