According to the Brett Johnson book(s), the '67 911 headrests had the same part # and was the same as the 356 headrest. (external chrome headrest mounted onto back of the seat.)
does anyone have any information to the contrary?
thank you.

They should be the same, eventhough I didnīt know that they were offered in -67, thought they were 65/66 only.

The frame spacing on one is bit narrower (not by much) but I don't remember which. An older gentleman pointed this out to me at Hershey this year with one of each in each hand.

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
SWB cars are an acquired taste however once acquired theirs no turning back.
I think the drivers seat on my '67 had a headrest at one point. The original window sticker and dealer invoice doesn't show them as being installed but the holes are present. I think the original owner might have installed one at a later date.
Does anyone have an up close photo that shows what and where the brackets would have been mounted?

there's a pair of 912 headrests on ebay (#390346054139) by ed anspach in ono, pa. the fastener brackets are on ebay #390346049922, if you want to see them. ed's been disassembling for a long time and knows what he's doing.
i need to see the two of them (911 vs. 356) next to one another, but there seems to be consensus that they are not identical, despite brett johnson's authenticity book, and that's what i wanted to know.
if anyone has more info, such as the width of the brackets on the 911, please share!!
I just measured the center line headrest mounting of a pair of early 911 seats I got from Tony at 10-3/16" -- center of knurled screw to center of knurled screw. Of course not sure if these actually are 911 headrests but pretty sure they are. I have two different sets at the shop and will measure later this week.

I'll see ed anspach on saturday at ski roundtop, and i'll measure his, taken from a 912. We can compare the information and see what we get.
This is great! thanks.
I meant no offense to Brett. I'm still a fan, and I use Brett's books as the primary research resource on both 356ss and 911s. He made a good case for the part #'s being the same in the book, but Cy Crandell (a Porsche parts savant, here in Indiana) said they were different and Cy is seldom wrong. This thread proved Cy correct, again.
I can't express how much I value the wealth of knowledge in this community. Thank you all.
