    2.2 Cyl in a 2.0 Case

I have spoken with 2 reputable shops on using 2.2 Mahle cylinders in a 2.0 case. One says it can be done without opening the case. The other says the case hase to be opened. Didn't discuss modifying the cylinder. Anyone with experience with this?

You need to do some searches here and on Pelican, this topic has been covered before. I think you should also buy a copy of both Bruce Andersons book and also Wayne from Pelican's engine rebuilding book. Lots of good info on mixing and matching in those books.

I think the 2.2 jugs may fit in the holes, but the sealing method to the head is different, so machining is required.

2.2 will fit 2 liter case without opening 2 liter but if your going to use 2 liter heads you will have to modify them. If using 2.2 and some later heads your GTG.

I have no problem with the theory that all men are created equal.
But after that moment you are on your own and nobody owes you a damn thing.

Use 2.2 or 2.4 heads and sell the 2.0 heads. The combustion chamber shape was improved and will match the pistons.

The shape of the 2 ltr piston and combustion chamber (head) are not the same as a 2.2 piston and head you would need 2.2 heads.
The 2.2 case has the piston oil squirters for cooling. (Corrected) The aluminum case is also a stronger unit then the mag case as per Chris.

You can use the 2 L heads - but they will have to be fly cut for the 2.2 app.
At least I know you can do it using E p/c's

The compression ratio will be very low since the combustion chamber of the 2.0 heads is much bigger than the 2.2 liter heads.
