    Gas Tank Restoration

    Hello All
Anyone have a service shop that they have had luck with restoring their gas tank?
Also interested in refinishing the exterior paint/schutze.
    Thanks?

Where are you? I had mine done by somebody upstate NY. Expensive, two coats of alcohol-proof sealant inside. I am working on restoring the schutz and will document that here.

The easiest way to strip the exterior of the tank is to have it chemically dipped. This will also have the added benefit of cleaning the inside of any rust or debris. You can then take it to a radiator shop to have the inside re-sealed (or buy one of the dyi products like redcoat and do it yourself). To refinish the exterior, we have used a wurth product, which seems to match the texture and color well, but you can also paint over it if you are unhappy with the color. The wurth coating requires a special spray gun for application though.
