    Road Music

Okay, it's early AM on the weekend. Your favorite stretch of road is open and the oil temp just hit the magic 180, your moment of Zen has arrived. Besides the magical engine note, what music gets your adrenaline going in this scenario?

Being an 80's kid, I'll go with:
    1) AC/DC: Back in Black or Shake your Foundations
    2) Ozzy Osbourne: Crazy Train or Shot in the Dark
    3) Judas Priest: Turbo Lover
    4) Motley Crue: Kickstart Your Heart
    5) Foo Fighters: The Pretender
    6) Dope: Debonaire
    7) Just to try to class it up, Wagner: Ride of the Valkrie

    Let this scientific study begin

    1) Mountain Jam (Allman Brothers). 30+ minutes of incredible jamming that just builds and builds.. and aptly titled since the road would be in the mountains.
    2) Dark Star/China Cat Sunflower/The Eleven (The Grateful Dead -so many roads box set). 25 minutes of explosive jamming by the grateful dead live in 69, at the peak of their experimental prowess. this one is super.
    3) Dreams (Allman Brothers)
    4) Birth of Mule (Gov't Mule)
    5) Cream Puff War (The Grateful Dead) early dead with a nice surf-rockish guitar riff
    6) That's it for the Other One/New Potato Caboose/Born Cross-Eyed (the Grateful Dead)
    7) Schism (Tool)
    8) Again (Alice in Chains)
    9) Bodysnatchers (Radiohead)
    10) Tobacco Road (Nashville Teens)
    11) Transmission (Joy Division)
    12) Clementine (the Grateful Dead)
    13) Nobody Knows (Allman Brothers)
    14) Franklin's Tower (The Grateful Dead)
    15) Impossible Germany (Wilco)
    16) Afro Blue (John Coltrane)

Jessica is a classic! great for the road, its on my iphone so i listen to it when i drive. it's cliche, but only because its a fantastic driving song (maybe the best). I say if you love it, listen to it, no matter what. Music, like driving and cars, is love. go with what you love, and you can never go wrong.

i just have too many to list, or else it would have been on there too. The jam bands for some reason go really well with twisty roads. The Dead and Allmans are just by far my favorite driving music though. In all honesty I love all music have everything from Al Green to The Zombies on my play list really. TONS of old Motown and Stax soul records. Quite a bit of Jazz (bop, post bop, cool jazz). Lots of British blues (yardbirds, them etc) and of course lots of my all time favorite, chicago blues (Jimmy Reed, Etta James, Elmore James, Little Walter, Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf...).

oh yeah - 5) Kenny Loggins "Danger Zone" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwL5xmhJejQ

Lately I've been listening to lots of Rush, Boston, REO Speedwagon (Riding the Storm Out), and Steppenwolf.

Jessica from Allman Brothers is good, and so is Don't Stop Me Now by Queen.

    And, in no particular order:

Grateful Dead (Anything and everything but in particular Workman's Dead, Live Dead, and Terrapin Station)
Sublime (Anything and everything but, in particular, I am partial to Robbin' The Hood)
Cat Stevens (Peace Train primarily, but anything will suffice)
    Rush (2112 and Moving Pictures)
    Massive Attack (Mezzanine)
Stone Temple Pilots (the Purple album, but anything will do)
    Janes Addiction (Anything and everything)
    Joe Walsh (selceted tracks)
    Wu-Tang Clan (36 Chambers)
    Dr. Dre (The Chronic)
