    Seen at the Body-shop

I love going through body-shops, seeing the cars, hearing the stories . . . watching the work.

The Company Van got an anonymous week-end whacking here, a couple of weeks ago. Nothing bad --- 3 foot crease on a rear-quarter --- but Really Big Boss made a comment, so I took care of business.

Anyway, while I was there picking the Van up . . .

. . . 300SL. (You'll know when I hit The Lotto 'cause this will be my first of what I'm sure would be several severely ill-advised purchases.)

    Some things I've never seen before . . .

    1) Mechanical lock for the fuel pump. Slots into the center console, behind the seats.

    2) Rear fog-light. What does that look like?

    3) Belly pans

    4) and 5) My Favorite. Looking good . . . . . . . . . in white walls

that's actually the back-up light, it and the reflector look awfully similar to the 356's, my Saab Sonett uses the same backup lights, too, without the housings.

Yeah . . . another Legend bites the dust. I showed this to a Persian friend of mine, couldn't believe it. 'Shameful.' Never saw/read/heard anything about that . . . . in any press on the car --- anywhere.

    Hey, Russ . . .

    Hmm.

    Sure hope not . . .

    . . . 'Cause, judging by the rest of the damage --- torn-off grill/bumper/left-front wheel . . . . . . . woulda been one Big-A$$ bi-ped!

In Florida, otherwise known as Home Of Unintended Acceleration misshaps, that lower damage is typical of driving into a shopping center. Curbs and storefronts do the bad stuff, pedestrian strikes are bonus points.

No joke: about 15 years ago my then brother-in-law owned a barbershop in Brooksville.
Old dude in a spankin' new Mercedes 600SEL drove through the window, pinning him and a customer.

Lawsuit didn't take much... guy claimed the throttle stuck.
