    Mirelli S112AX vs S112BX

Can anybody enlighten me on the differences between the Mirelli S112AX (used in '69) and the Mirelli S112BX (used in '70)?

Are they interchangeable? How about the cap (I assume they are both the 'long' version) and rotor?

And finally which Mirelli model is it that requires the short cap?

    Thanks

As far as I know the only Marelli using a short cap was the new style version starting in 72 #5-010-974. I never really looked at the distributor numbers back in the early 70's but I can't think of any reason they wouldn't interchange. A slight change in advance curve, for example, would require a new part number.

    Dirk, your 3.0 doesn't use a Marelli...

True... however my car's original engine does have a S112BX installed. I am currently sorting through the boxes of extras that came with the car. This includes a S112AX and what I believe is a NOS long cap and rotor (that I understand are somewhat rare). Thinking (very) long term about the possibility of rebuilding the 2.2 and I was wondering if the S112AX would be a suitable backup for the S112BX.

As always thanks for the response John, doesn't seem to mater where I post a question - you are always the first to offer help.
