    Rabid Kitteh...

While I was out on North Island taking in the festival of speed...I bumped into a good friend of mine who brought out his seriously evil Cheetah. He towed it in with that '64 El Camino that's pictured behind it. Elk had a period correct 327/365 fuelie in it.

Kitty's loud, fast, and absolutely refuses to go in a straight line...it was way too short with too much power - car sits on something like an 100" wheelbase (if not shorter). The driver's seat was mounted almost directly above the differential...My friend raced this same monster back in the day - the fact both the car and driver are still with us speaks volumes about his testicular fortitude and general resolve to live...

PS - I'm very surprised none of the 16 Cheetahs actually built weren't any more successful at the Drag Strip (vs road racing). Apparently a 1/4 mile was too long a straight for it... Seems like it would've made a great AA/Gasser.

Bill Thomas. Wanted one of these weapons for years. 16 built? 1st two in alu, rest FG.

Utterly mental. No drive-shaft --- trans plugs right into the dif. Headers pass over your legs. Check out the gas fill. Packaging? Car? More like nuclear-powered underpants. You don't drive a Cheetah so much as set it off. Prolly why you don't see many. Can you just see this thing going through scrutineering at a vintage race?

    'Done any time, Son?'

Talked to a Guy Who Raced One Back in the Day, Newport Beach Concours, early '80s? Said it was lightening quick but utterly evil. If you spin it --- all you can do is get under the dash . . . wait for it to stop.

Slow traffic keep ri--- oh never mind . . .
