    Hella 118 covers

So, there's another thread essentially talking about manufacturing a cover for the Hella 128's and 169's. Seems that Brad Ripley over at NLA356 has this kinda covered (haha).

There's a few covers out there on ebay that look like originals, and some repops as well.

The problem I always think of with these covers is that most of them look kinda sloppy and haven't taken into account where the bracket mount is on most of the lights.

I had a sample made a few months ago that took this into consideration. First I didn't use a foam backed vinyl, I used just a standard flat vinyl, and then used a separate foam piece to fit into the front for protection against the glass.

I then offset the opening so that the vinyl wouldn't bunch up against the bracket at the bottom, and then made the top come over the back a little further. I've attached a few shots to show what I did. It's very tight fitting so that it won't come off, and yes it probably takes an extra minute to put on, but I think it looks much cleaner than most of the applications I've seen.

Due to the extra foam piece and the construction used it's a bit expensive to make. These would have to sell for about $42 a pair. I've got black, and can probably get an off white as well. Not sure of the checkerboard or graphics (do your own I guess).

    Thoughts?

I would like a pair as well please, in black. Out of curiosity, what is the overall diameter of the Hella 118?

    Thanks,
    Mike

These look great, I'll take a pair in black when they're ready. Have you thought about silk screening "Hella" or another logo on them?

Eric - My vinyl covers are original with my 118s from '68. There's a pic on another thread somewhere. Would be happy to loan them if you would like a closer look. Your covers are a tad nicer! Richard
