Who started the red fan craze?

I've seen this so much that I had to ask. Was it an old factory racing thing or just a fancy personalized custom look? Just a cool look? I know MotorMolester did it almost as a matter of routine.

I hope this isn't sacred ground. Just wondering.

Better question is "who else has a palletized motor at the foot of their stairs?"

    Jealous....

Lew, that's how I bought the motor, complete and running, leak-down, compression all great. $1200 INCLUDING the red fan!
