Thread: First car?

    First car?

    Where did it all start?

Mine was a 1969 Datsun 1600: duck egg blue; Stanza alloys; trashed SAAS bucket seats; 5 speed (240k?); tacho on top of the dash; battery in the boot; and a 180B motor on enormous webers (later a 200B motor after the 1800 died a plumes-of-smoke death on Chapel St).

Still like 1600's (510's) to this day.
    Cheers, Ryan

Mine was a 1970 Datsun 1600 also ! $300 parked under a tree, rusty and unregistered. Poo brown, 180BSSS motor was later installed, cage, seats and I then went rallying in it!

    Next Datsun 240Z

    Third Mitsubishi Starion !

a 356C... which is still alive and well in Sydney.

Ironically I met the fellow to whom I sold it in 1994 - half a world away in Monterey, California Who'd have thought it?

1961 Karmann Ghia. Faded blue paint. Whopping 1200 cc / 40 bhp (SAE) on tap. Actually a great car. Dropped a #3 exhast valve on a downshift, so upgraded to a slightly hopped-up 72 Super Beetle 1600 cc, which helped greatly with acceleration and top speed. I scored a set of genuine 356 Speedster chrome steelies from a bone yard. Paid $400 plus a bottle of decent whiskey to the yard manager, for the set. That was the same amount I originally paid for the car. The wheels, good engine, plus a nice new paint job made for a very presentable ride. Sold it to buy my 1970 914-6.
