    Muffler swap 2.2E

    Hi,

I recently acquired a nice 2.2 E which came from California to France a couple of years back.

The car is fitted with a Bursch sports muffler which makes a great sound BUT seems to rob quite some power from the MFI engine below 4500 rpm.

I find the car very sluggish and with uneven pull before that threshold when I compare it with my 2.0 E Targa with standrad muffler.

I intend to have the MFI pump and injectors rebuilt in Germany. In addition, when going through older posts on the Registry I get the sense that I should revert to a standard muffler.

Dansk seems to be the OEM muffler solution used by most.

Should I get the one outlet sport or standard version to revert to the engine's normal characteristics?

Keeping some of the sports sound without compromising engine performance is the agenda!

    Any other recommendations?

    Thanks in advance.

    Thumbs up

    Philippe,

I'd stick with an original single outlet Leistritz factory muffler, if you can find a good used one... NOS is almost imposable..

A Dansk single outlet would be a second choice...

I have found these work best with our MFI cars...

And with time (years and years), a OEM single outlet muffler will get louder and sportier sounding.......

    Hope this helps...

BTW- Sometimes it's easier to find a '74-'75 used factory muffler... they are mostly stainless and lasted longer, and are the same internally... you just need to cut off the 'late' exit pipe and replace it with a early one.......

    Chuck,

Thanks for the advice. I will give it a chance to find a used one before going the Dansk way.
