So you want to run Bonneville?

So you want to see if you can set a record at Bonneville? Read Denny Kahler's story of his record attempt. Just posted this under the "356 Bonneville Build" page.

    Here's the link: http://wwwjohnstraub.blogspot.com

    John
    1965 911 #301111, Red Book Vol 1 "Cover Car," owned 53 years.
1967 911 #307347, bare-bones, some road wear, a little surface rust, and a few dents..., owned 13 years.
    1970 914/6GT, (Sold - ran the last three Rennsports)owned 30 years.

Fair warning about LSR attempts, John... his brief description of going airborne in a 911 is scary enough.

FIFY... you left out a "." in the URL: http://johnstraub.blogspot.com/p/356...lle-build.html

Doing this (someday) is on my bucket list, and it's either gonna be the 356 Notch or maybe really small bore with a BMW 700S.
Biggest problem with the former is Porsche's notoriously located center of pressure... with the latter, the aerodynamics of a shoebox.

Anyway, good luck to him. The 356 record has stood for awhile.

John, the Bonneville run is on the lilac car's agenda. I need crew. You & Hans up for it? Jon

    Sure Jon!

I think it would be fun. I was thinking about doing it too. Kinda' like running a brick out there.

Jim, thanks for posting photos of Paul Swanson's '51. It's an inspiration... love the small aero tweeks such as the windsplits on the roof.
John posted awhile back about his Bonneville efforts, but seeing the car never gets old. A lot of work went into claiming the record.

    It sounds baddass, too.

It does sound badass. All of that salt and a 356 is pretty scary, I think that I could actually hear the sound of the rust over the engine. It was pretty cool seeing all of the tweaks done to that car, has he gotten above 145? Pretty impressive.

Yes, AFAIK he still holds the modified stock 356 record by going back and kicking it up to 151mph... with 1.5 liters.

Really impressive. Did he start it at RRII?
