    It even has the early two screw four screw horn grilles. Or is that the four screw two screw grilles? I have a feeling this car is rough when seen in person.

    BaT Description:

    This 1965 Porsche 911 is a short-wheelbase coupe that was built on May 24, 1965 and was acquired by the seller five years ago. An ensuing refurbishment included rebuilds of the numbers-matching 2.0L flat-six and five-speed manual transaxle as well as a bare-metal repaint in Light Ivory, installing new black upholstery and Pepita seat inserts, and overhauling the suspension. Equipment includes Solex carburetors, chrome 15″ wheels, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, tinted windows, a Webasto heater, and a Blaupunkt radio. This early 911 is now offered with refurbishment photos, an owner’s manual, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean California title listing it as a 1966 model.

    The body was stripped to bare metal and repainted from metallic silver to its factory Light Ivory (6404). Details include chrome bumper guards, four-screw horn grilles, tinted windows, a Talbot-style driver’s mirror, and gold script on the rear decklid. Close-up photos of the paint, lenses, trim, glass window etchings, and badging are provided. Chrome 15” steel wheels are date stamped 5/65 and wear hubcaps with Porsche crests as well as 165-width Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The overhauled suspension features Bilstein dampers at all four corners, and braking is from four-wheel discs.

    The car was delivered new with a black leatherette interior, which was refurbished with new black vinyl, black and red Pepita fabric seat inserts, and charcoal carpeting. A Blaupunkt push-button radio is housed in the wood-trimmed dash, and the factory-optional Webasto gas heater has also been refurbished. The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames green-letter VDO instruments including a central tachometer with a 6,800-rpm redline as well as a clock and a 150-mph speedometer. Additional combination gauges show fuel and oil levels in addition to oil pressure and temperature. The five-digit odometer is said to have been zeroed during the refurbishment and now shows less than 400 miles.

    The 2.0-liter flat-six was rated for 130 horsepower at 6,100 rpm when new. It was reportedly overhauled by the selling dealer’s shop and is equipped with dry-sump lubrication, dual Solex carburetors, and a multi-piece steel airbox. Engine stamping *901440* matches the number listed on the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. Transaxle stamping 101360 also matches the CoA. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 901/0 five-speed manual transaxle with a dogleg shift pattern. The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity displays a completion date of May 24, 1965, and lists the factory colors, equipment, and powertrain numbers. Additional gallery photographs document various stages of the paint, bodywork, and assembly process. An owner’s manual accompanies the vehicle.

    Auction Description:

    * Beautiful color specification
    * Original, numbers matching engine
    * Quality restoration performed
    * Documented with Porsche Production Specification certificate

    This stunning 911 was completed in Stuttgart on January 18th, 1966. The car left the factory wearing code 6603 Gulf Blue paint over a beige leatherette interior. The car was nicely optioned with a Webasto Gasoline heater, tinted windshield, wheels caps with crest and Phoenix tires. Recently, the car was treated to a complete restoration in which it was sprayed in its original shade of Gulf Blue, while the interior was nicely reupholstered in red leather with black carpeting. This is quite a nice upgrade over the original Beige interior the car was originally delivered with. The black leather dash is quite tidy and features an AM/FM radio, wood steering wheel, and wood dash paneling, both are in great condition. All of the chrome brightwork including the wheels caps, bumpers, and other accents are in excellent shape with a nice deep luster.

    Since the completion of the restoration some years ago, this short wheelbase 911 has been driven sparingly and stored properly. The car is well sorted and operates nicely. Included in the sale are Porsche Production Specification certificate, jack, tool kit and driver's manual. The early 911 is considered by many enthusiasts as the purest of the company's air-cooled sports cars. With such a well-executed refurbishment, this Porsche is perfectly suited for tours, rallies and shows. However with as much attention paid to mechanics as aesthetics, this car could easily be an enthusiast's gorgeous driver. The opportunity to find such a great, early longnose 911 in this fantastic color scheme should be seriously considered by all 911 fans.
