    New Canaan C&C

This was a very cool event with a massive turnout. 70 Ferraris, an equal number of 911s, and a very eclectic group of some very nice old machinery, probably 300 cars. Was a pleasure to spend the morning with Steven, Dana, Lewis, and Eric. Also nice to meet Jerry, Yale and Peter.

For me, the star of the show was a 1946 Lancia (the white car below) with a body by RIVA of Merate - the only one built, and at least a decade ahead of it's time style wise. A number of carmakers lifted styling cues from this gem, including the Jag C type, and the MGA. I've never heard of the maker, but the owner said that he was part of an old carriage/coach building family that was in business from the 1850s through the 1970s.

Dana, Eric and I did the drive from New Canaan up to Ridgefield for a lunch of home made tomato soup and grill cheese sandwiches alfresco put on by the organizer, a perfect autumn lunch with a great view of the cars. I was lucky to fall in behind the Lancia for the drive up.

Dana and I went for a spirited drive after lunch up north of I-84 (and one of the areas hardest hit by last weeks snowstorm), power is still out with many trees hanging in the power lines. We had a few pucker inducing moments avoiding electric trucks, sand on the curves, and branches blocking half the road. Just as well that the Cold Toes tour was cancelled, the roads are a mess.

All in all a perfect way to wind down the season before the snow flies, and well worth the 2 hr drive to get there.

It was nice to meet you as well Jim. I agree with your comment on the Lancia, and you can see where Touring got the inspiration for Ferrari's 166MM just 3 years later.

The Lancia is owned by a friend. The car was invited to Pebble Beach two years ago and took second in class. The owner has taken it on several of the Mille events - Mille Miglia (got stuck in customs - never made the start), Targa Florio, Colorado Grand. He is an avid collector - Ferrari's, Cunningham, Carrera Panamerica Chrysler. The pictures missed my two cars I brought that day - my RSR replica and my 1970 911S coupe. There also was a new Bugatti at the event. The weekend before we had many inches of snow from the freak snow storm that hit the Connecticut area.

    Bob,

it was good to see you at the event.....I was the guy in the 'other' black '73 RS clone....feel free to email me off list, I'd like to add you to my list for a variety of events we do in the area.....most weekends a bunch of us are out and about tearing up some local roads throughout NY, NJ, CT, PA and beyond.
