    R-32 vw

I took in a renter recently and he owns a VW R 32. He asked me if I wanted to drive his car and I said, "absolutely". Holy crap. these VW's go like hell and the suspension is off the charts. This car has ALL the creature conforts and great sport seats. He was expaining how the factory only makes 500 of these every 4 years. So the new 2012's should be out soon. If you happen to be cruisen' by a VW dealership, drive one ! they sell for the somewhere around $30-35 K. Jusst sharing ....

Great car, not available anymore except in Europe. The US is FINALLY getting a replacement in the form of the Golf R. I believe the new one is supercharged v4 instead of the v6 in the r32. I tried to talk Jennifer into getting one but she settled for a gti

The original R32 is an animal ... it was available in Europe for quite a while before VW got the hint and brought it here.

Cain Devore - remember him? - showed up at my shop one day with a BRAND NEW R32 and he let me take it for a drive ... it was a MKIV version with 240hp and a 3.2L; it was definitely no slouch. Great Recaro buckets, big motor, 6-speed and all wheel drive = don't F!ck with me.

I've been looking for a new car recently and I was looking for an MKIV R32. But they're SOOOOOOO hard to find in unmolested, original condition. Most of them went to Rice Racer wannabes who put on aftermarket cheese parts and beat the snot out of them. A good MKIV R-32 is a real gem ... if you can find one.

Bummler has a MKV R32 with the flappy paddle gearbox (DSG) and he raves about how good it is. I think the MKV version is super cool, but there's something "early 911" about the MKIV R32 that the new car just doesn't have.

Can you tell I'm a fan?

Never driven one, but I did have a Mk3 VR6 GTI and later a VR6 Corrado. Sweet engine and they make a great daily driver.

The R32's have an interesting nickname due to their sound-Wookie!

Funny I love my TDI but have been gettin the itch for something a bit sportier. I have been captivated by the 4 door GTI but maybe I have been aiming too low......

I convinced my wife to test drive one back in '04 - its been her daily driver since. We found it hiding in a Boston area dealership at the end of the year, only delivery miles and the dealer itching to make room. Up to this point, I'd only found obviously abused (300+ miles on a "new" car) and overpriced ("its a limited edition" = 10% surcharge!??!) examples. I ended up paying almost 10% under retail! Today it has about 40k miles and is absolutely bone-stock. Nothing really needs to change on it. But, like the Corrado that I had for almost 10 years, a few expensive bits have been needing some attention, but overall it has been the best car I've owned. For the money, it delivers on torque (oh, MY!), handling, comforts, etc and the sound that it makes both at idle and running up the tach, Oi! Except for the sound, it is reasonably stealthy. It is a Golf. THe other good side effect? My wife knew that the R32 was literally a childhood dream come true (Ein uber Rallye Golf in America!), but it was hers... so, she graciously allows me to blow my salary on other dreams, like 911s and CSs. She even lets me drive it once in awhile.

Funny you should bring this up Curtis...

I have one (MKV), bought it new in 2008. Marco is right I love it and the DSG is great fun, even has launch control. The thing is really a hoot on rainy days. With AWD and traction control, just push the pedal and hang on! My only complaint is that they're heavy (3,200 lbs) and you can feel the weight, unlike my '69 E .

The only change I've made is to the Haldex controller. I purchased the sport controller which shifts the torque to the rear more quickly eliminating some understeer allowing a transition to mild oversteer. Another 50-60 HP would be nice but isn't that always the case after you've owned a car for a while. I've been thinking of selling it and buying something else even dumber and more irresponsible but I can't bring myself to do it...

When that day does finally come, you make sure I'm at the top of the phone list. I am claiming rights of first refusal.

4 years ago I bought an Audi TT Quattro Roadster with the 3.2 liter V6 except with 270 HP and DSG 6 speed transmission and S-line suspension. At a recent CSRG race the CanAm cars revolted against the Tesla Roadsters that were supplied as Pace Cars because they couldn't keep up the pace for two laps. They ended up using Petey's TT as the CanAm pace car and some day I'll hear the end of it. I admit I enjoy the few drives I'm permitted to take by myself where I drive the pi$$ out of it and lower the average MPG by at least 4 MPG! As the TT uses the GTI pan, I'm presuming this must be the same car except with Freeman's body.
