Red face 1971: where to do stone guard under enamel

    Hello together
This is my first post in this forum, so let me say hello to everybody and let me give a short introduction:
Living in the south of germany, I bought and restored my first early 911 thirty years ago. 15 years later a delivery truck crashed my ´69 Porsche and it was completely destroyed. Never forgot an early 911 and then, three years ago, I found a very complete 2.2S. Again a lot of work e.g. suspension, chassis and interior, but hopefully the car will run again next year.

Currently I am nearly finished with a complete new painting of my 2.2 1971 (signal orange- original colour ). But there is still one important question and with respect to my painting facility I need a fast answer . As there are a lot of experts on these things, I hope someone can give me a quick response.
Does somebody know in which areas should be done a stone guard cover under the new painting. I would like to do this in an original look like the car left the factory.

    1. lower area of doorsills (area under deco strip /aluminum covers)?
    2. lower outside area of front or rear bumpers?
    3. fenders/ inner lip at the wheel opening area?
    4. lower part of the rear center panel?

    pics would be helpful

    Thank´s for your help.
    regards
    Werner

I think by deco trim he may have been referring to the aluminum trim over the outer rockers, under which, as stated above, there should be stone guard finish.

Dave, Yes that would be correct, sounds like that is what Werner was referring to, not the alu sill plates that I understood them to be...

Check this thread out as well. I was researching recently because I'm about the put fresh undercoating on my '72 prior to sending out to paint. Hopefully this helps.
