    WOW!! Mint MK1 GTI

Excuse me ... MK2 ... typo in the title. BUT, that doesn't mean the following isn't true:

This car is one of my dream cars ... to find them in this condition is RARE RARE RARE!!!

I'm looking for a newer car so despite my gut telling me to BUY BUY BUY I'm going to pass pass pass. But anyone who knows knows that this is the car to buy.

    So freakin' cool...

Oh Jesus - My high school car is following me all the way from Stuttgart to California ... No way am I going to re-live those days ...

A pristine, pre-79 Euro Mk1, boxy Giugiaro genius, with the small rear lights, yes! This rounded thing I learned driving in? No way. It's not even the 16v ...

Big-bumper VWs were 2-liters, as I recall. This Seller's a bit bashful 'bout showing the front --- and is the hood not closed all-the-way?

Big vertical wrinkle in the front of the driver-side door skin?

Unidentified/indeterminate bit o' trim on the roof --- from the front bumper?

Unbelievable interior --- that particular cloth upholstery would last about three college week-ends before utterly disintegrating.

    16v wheels, party-favor exhaust tip.

    But $4k asking? . . .

    . . . . ay-yay-yay . . .

They made the 1.8 in big bumpers too. The give away is the 2.0 16v had real Reacro seats.

That's right . . . Junior's got an '89 --- 1.8 liter. (Ports so big you can drop a basketball into 'em.) With a header. (I've got power tools with more torque, but hitting 4000 rpm feels like getting rear-ended by a train.)

    Hmm. Never heard that.

But the 16v went to 2 liter in '90.

And all of these cars were built in Mexico.
