    Reverse gear crunching

Reverse gear on my car has become difficult to engage and is crunching and grinding badly. Even though it has crunched at times in the past, after today's run (about 200 miles) it is now in bad shape.

Given that 1st gear is also acting up (though not as badly), what is the probable cause, the slider?

    BTW, I have a 68 with it's original 901 transmission.

    Thanks
    Henry

Try adjusting the clutch to see if you can achieve complete disengagement. Then you can try engaging 2nd (or 3rd) before trying 1st (or reverse).

Clutch not disengaging all the way. Reverse is not synchronized so it shows the symptoms of a mis-adjusted clutch first.

Thanks, sounds about right, especially since it is difficult to engage 2nd or 3rd also!

And is of course much cheaper to fix, I will try it next weekend
