Thread: 911 Vehicle Weight

Is it a gasoline heater? My car has headers and the flapper box in the front trunk was eliminated. I thought the Tart had headers as well.

Mine came in way heavy back at the last chassis set-up at West End Alignment.

2596 - w/me in the car (+160), 2/3rds tank of gas, and nothing in the trunk........

Full stock '73 stuff + flares, 7's & 8's, duck tail, vintage TRE roll bar, and what must be the heaviest set of OE sport seats on the planet...

My 911 weighed in at 2360 lbs. At the time the specs were:

'77 911 chassis with no sunroof, a/c, pw windows, radio, or rear seat backs. Recaro SRD seats. All stock glass windows.

'86 3.2 engine, 915 transmission w/ lsd, and oil cooling system.

Backdated 9" fiberglass front fenders, hood, bumpers, ducktail, and heat system. Metal 11" rear flares.

    8&9x15" Fuchs with 205/55 and 225/50 Toyo T1R tires.

Full tank of gas, optima red battery, 14" Fuchs spare wheel/tire in place, jack and tools included.

I've made a few changes since then (mainly 3.6 w/ plastic intake and 9&10.5x17" Zuffenhaus wheels) but it's still probably around the same weight. Maybe closer to 2400lbs now.

Here is the car as weighed:

    Here it is now:

    I like your choices --- especially starting w/ a '74-'77 shell. Smart.

Nice job getting the weight down. And w/ a 3.2? --- sounds like a real flyer!

    Good looking car, too.

    4) A 964 is how much heavier than an Early 911?
What I have usually seen listed for 964 curb weight (to DIN 70020): 3031 lbs./1375 kg (C2); 3100 lbs. (Tiptronic); 3252 lbs. (C4)
The Zone 8 and PCA Parade Competition Rules list the 964 C2 weight as 3031 lbs. also.

FWIW- The 964 (at 3376.5) was a C4 and on the scales w/driver. In fact, all weights listed that day were with the owners in their cars.

Note the differing amounts of fuel. I'm figuring gasoline at 6.2lbs/gal, so you can go back and twiggle these numbers for a better comparison . . . but you get the idea.

Some of the things that stands out for me . . .

    1) 914s aren't that light!

    2) Older doesn't necessarily denote Lighter

    3) Compare these figures to Porsche's homologated weights with the FIA . . .

    4) A 964 is how much heavier than an Early 911?

    Wow.

I don't have my Owner's Manual handy but the published weight figures I've seen on-line quote 2390 for a '70. I weighed my car on a commercial truck scale, locally --- 2360.

Curious what kinds of actual measured weights people have for their cars.

If the drivers were in their cars, and we don't know their weights, and fuel content is a guess as well as variables such as tools spare tires. Then the error introduced makes it hard to extrapolate accurate data.

I would suggest that we post the weights of our cars with out driver, and a full tank of gas, spare and tools. To be consistent.

That makes sense now. They should be weighed without the driver, spare, tools and adjust for the fuel quantity for comparison. Some factory quotes were without any liquids...
