China's empty city was the host of 2011 Porsche Carrera Cup?

after bumping into this video of Porsche cup racing in Asia, I looked up the city of Ordos where the race was held last summer and came upon a news report about the government built ghost town of Ordos. seems like a good place to film city race scenes, I wonder if any of those racers "took to the streets" so to speak in downtown Ordos?

interesting note, the news report stated that China's GDP grows the more they spend and build however what are they going to buy America with? empty cities in remote areas?

It looked as though the two guys on the flag stand were the only spectators. Unless the track is picking up the cost of shipping the cars and paying them to run, how does that make sense? Does the theoretical publicity for the track/region offset the cost? Maybe. I had never heard of Ordos before this post.
