    Hi boba, that note of yours is absolutely right!
    Off 911S topic, but still about classic Porsches...I can see that you own a dolphin grey 356SC. I got one sunroof C that was born with the same colour, but now it's metallic grey (as bought in 2005). Would you pls show me how the 356 looks in that colour in real? Pls send a pic of your car to my ggwestar@gmail.com address if you don't mind. Thanks a lot!

    Thumbs up

    George, some years ago I advised a friend in a deal involving an '73 911RS "molested" by Irwin Kremer with a 2.8 liter motor. He had some concerns that the car was no longer completely factory original and had lost collector car value. My opinion was that the car was better for having been modified by the great Kremer race shops that added not only to it's provenance but also made the car more unique amoung the other thousand and a half or so RSs. A little time later and after some careful and loving restoration back to it's Kremer history, the car fetched large money, record (?) money at that time for an RS.

    Enjoy your car George. I, for one, think the Alois Ruf conversion makes the car much more interesting.

    I think that the interest on this thread plus related discussion on "911 Speedsters" are strong indicators that certain "one-offs" are not only "OK" but even desirable. Have fun bringing this novel early S back!

    Cool

    Regarding the European classic Porsche dealer's opinion, I have no doubt that this dealer knows his own marketplace and has his own personal slant on what he thinks people want in an older Porsche. And gawd bless him, But, he doesn't know it all and clearly doesn't understand the US collectors' minds, and this is a HUGE and varied market for Porsche cars.

    Seeing this variation makes the '72 S even more significant to me as an early variation...I wonder how many conversions RUF has completed? A truly special club!

    ...so huge that 60+% of all Porsches that have been/are being produced went/are going new to the US market, and those dealers obtain 80% of their cars being offered for sale in Europe from the US. The situation is the same with other European made cars that achieved classic car status...

    Okay Marco, what year is that tub? I see what the I.D. plate is claiming, but the dash and torsion bar covers say something else.

    Alright Ed!! I was waiting for someone to mention that stuff.

    The car IS a '73 as confirmed by RUF, but there are some oddities as you pointed out. Here's what I caught ... the big vent dash, the Carrera rear quarters and, if you look closely, you can see RUF added the 87-89 Carrera lift pads to the chassis. But the car does have an MFI motor and correct '73 driver's side heater box which you can also see poking out in one of the pictures.

    What gets me, though, is the 5th digit. It's a 5. I don't think I've ever come across a 5 in the 5th position on an early car before.

    The little spec book says: "5=TV-E"

    What the hell is a TV?

    1 = T
    2 = E
    3 = S
    5 = TV
    6 = SC (Carrera RS, in this case)
