    whats it worth? wiring harness

in dismantling this car, I have been extra careful with all of the wires and connectors... its becoming a PITA.

so what im deciding on is if it is worth the extra time or not. what is the going rate for a full wiring harness both brand new and used from a parts car?

please do not start responding with offers, i dont want this to be perceived or interpreted as an auction. If anyone knows of the going rate or price range that would be great. i can then assess if its worth the extra effort to save it or if i should just start cutting in order to make quicker work of this car.

That harness may well save someones day - perhaps even yours, so its worth taking the extra time to not hack it up. =)

I spent the better part of an afternoon to remove a complete harness all 21 feet. I know you can do it.

    Harry,

It's only worth anything if it's close to perfect. That means no burned wires, hacked wiring, paint on wires etc. $200 or so would be a reasonable price. A new harness is like $3,000.

question.. how do you disconnect the headlight connector to pull the wires through the tubes in the headlight buckets that lead to the chasis? the connectors dont fit down the tube..

Depends on which style you have, could be bullet connectors that just unplug, or could be locking tang female connectors that you use a very narrow tip flat screwdriver to push in and push back locking tang. Post a picture and I'll tell you which style you have.

    Harry,

First, take out a small hammer, hold it in your right hand, and smack a fingertip of your left hand with it. This will approximate what it feels like when you remove those headlight connectors and pinch your finger in the clamp, so you can tell you're doing it correctly! (That's what I always do)

Next: take a pair of water pump pliers and grasp the brass terminal-- this looks like a right angle-- and squeeze it toward the side that the bulb goes into. This should allow the wire to release.

Save those connectors, they can be cleaned with a little salt and vinegar soak followed by fresh water, then sprayed with WD40 to displace the water.

This should allow you to pull, gently, the harness out of the headlight tube. I would not be above putting copious dishwashing liquid down the tube as a lubricant.
