    Alu in 70MY E&S bumpers??

In Peter Morgans book "Original Porsche", he states on page 33 that the central part of C-programme bumpers (1970 MY) on E & S was aluminium to save weight. I have never seen this info anywhere else.

My own 70S has fiberglass, so canīt check.

So, is the info in the book correct, should 70E & S have lighter bumpers??

Without looking at page 33 of the book, I'm sure when he refers to the central part of the bumper he's talking about the license plate panel which was aluminum on some cars, and Yes, it does save a few ounces. Reproductions are available,, and every once in a while you can find an original one for sale on this site. Like with all reproduction parts, OEM pioeces ar always superior in fit and materials.

The aluminum panels look exactly like the standard steel part, and fit exactly like it too ( not my photo ).

Ahh, can it be this simple? Did not cross my mind he could be referring to the license plate panel
Have always thought that by bumpers he meant both front and rear.

Missing that alu license plate panel btw. Had it on my 71E where it probably should not have been.

Another string on this site goes into detail on when they were offered and opinions on value. In 69-70 they were offered as part of an option group. They are very fragile. I bought a 70 E recently and the tipping point, other than the S options, it had the deck lid and license panel in aluminum. And nice.

I have seen an occasional 'E' with an aluminum engine lid, so there were probably the odd 'E' or two that may have gotten the license panel also.
