VIN 119100008, first owner of car

    Hello,

I've just found out that my car was was sold to its first owner in LondonUK,
Ian McCleod on DDK told me the car was never registered in the UK.

question for all you knowledgable guys...

Why would someone buy a car in the UK and not register it in my country?
I know the car went to Africa but it seems strange.

    Let me know your thoughts....

    Hi Lee

Ian has helped me on numerous occasions in the past and his information is invaluable. However, recently he has not been able to confirm the existence of a car in his records which was first registered by AFN UK and which has a very similar VIN number to yours. Maybe there is a small gap in his records at the start of the LWB models? I would not discount the fact that your car was not registered in the UK just yet. The DVLA will be able to confirm when the car was first registered on the road and to whom, on payment of a small fee. However, this information is not available to anyone not resident in the UK even if you are the owner of the vehicle. I have tried to get this information for the Australian owner of a UK car but this is also not allowed. Not easy is it?

    Regards
    Mike

Yes, you can do it online, I think. There is a form to complete. I will try and find a link but I must say it will be a resounding NO to your request if the car is marked as 'exported' with the DVLA. If you know the UK registration plate at the point of export I can check the vehicle's status online with the DVLA.
