I think he refers to the H on the engine (alu) case, valve covers, etc.

Hi Richard Mahle looks like a capital "E" turned Clockwise 90 degree- so it ends as a kind of "M".
    Cheers

I asked this question a few years ago with no definitive answer forthcoming. I have the 'H' symbol on my 73 aluminium crankcases.

Mahle cast the magnesium parts. We see the circle H on the aluminum parts. As Mike says we do not have a definitive answer yet.

Two threads in particular to check out:
    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ine-case-stamp
    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...p-anyone-else)

Here is the H in a circle logo that we want to identify.
Here is the Mahle logo; it looks more like an E rotated 90º right resting on a 3 point crown.

Maybe the begining of an answer:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hirth

But, if Hirth had been already absorbed by Mahle group, why can we find 2 different marks on parts of the same era???

    Olivier.
