Nice photos. It all looks so damn quaint doesn't it? And from a modern safety perspective, the narrow pit lane open to the very narrow straight makes my hair stand on end. Think of the passes that were made while mechanics were working a few feet away completely exposed.

Great link, thanks! I wonder if they used a headlight relay on that van? Or an aux generator!

The link was posted on a Leica forum, so I'm thinking he was using an M2 or M3.

Lovely find, thank you. Wish there was a snap of the lone privateer 911 too.

Great photos! Time/technology marches on. The technology of prototype racing and rally is behind F1 (can I say F1 without paying a little $ to Bernie?) but only a little. Prototype and rally has lost almost nothing that attracts it to the masses since Matra 650Bs or Group B Audis. F1? I don't think Gizell (sp?) would really care about Formula One at Watkins Glen in 1972. Those photos of 1966, even if 1966 was a huge year for Henry #2, are little changed or different than any photo pertaining to the culture of that AWESOME event. Lemans lives. Lemans isn't Goodwood, Lemans isn't motorsport pickled in formaldehyde (I am not saying it shouldn't be). You can still buy Grand Marnier crepes at 5:AM while Bernie is no where in sight with his hand out.

Great find Curt. These photos really transport you back in time. Cool to be reminded of the ASA cars... And the GT40s -- holy cow -- Chris Amon and Bruce McLaren driving for Ford not to mention Mario Andretti, Lucien Bianchi, Ken Miles and Denis Hulme. Ford really pulled out the stops with cars from Shelby and Holman and Moody and another team I think. Very nice photos.

Alan Mann Racing ran two 7-liter Mark 2 "factory" cars in addition to the Mark 2's of Shelby-American and Holman and Moody (3 each). Then there were five more "privateer" GT40's run by Essex Wire (two cars), F. English Ltd., Scuderia Filipinetti, and Ford-France. Great photos of an historic race!
