Thread: Candidate for ugliest Early 911 accessory.

Candidate for ugliest Early 911 accessory.

I'm not sure what morbid curiosity possessed me to install this today, but it lasted on the car for about as long as it took me to take it off. Anybody else have pics of accessories on an early 911/912 that qualify as ugly? Thought this might be a fun idea to explore.

Anyone else think of the Lone Ranger once they saw this?

    Ugh.

Yuck! I have that same bra Mike- don't blame me though, it came with the car. Thanks for squelching any thought I had of trying it out.

Mike that looks a little B&D to me. Next thing you'll have the car chained to the wall with a rubber ball up the exhaust pipe.

There is not doubt bras were and are ugly. HOWEVER, "back in the day" when people (like me) used their Porsches for daily drivers, they served a purpose, especially if you lived in an area with lots of gravel trucks or dirty roads. And if you look at old factory pics, you'll see they put them on the cars for the required road test at Zuffenhusen which was done on every car.

The above being said, aside from their ugliness, they had other drawbacks one of which if you left it on when it rained and then the sun came out, your paint could fade !!! Anyway, the day has long passed when these cars are daily drivers for almost anyone. Thanks.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around Porsche's "cookie cutter" wheels. One moment I like
them and the next I don't get it. One day I'll wish I had bought a set when they were cheap!

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I used to run my 912 with the BRA back in the early 80's. It was a cool look "back in the day". Of course women like my wife thought they looked good with "mall hair" and NFL linemen sized shoulder pads back then too.

Besides the rain and paint fade issue already mentioned, the other issue was while the bra protected the paint from stone chips, the debris that came up over the bra and fell down between it and the car became ground into the paint, thus completely defeating the purpose. Oh yea, and those stone chips are now considered "patina" on an unrestored car today. Go figure.

my car was once the poster child for hideous aftermarket crap. 19 and 22. please forgive me.. i was young, foolish and did not know better.

I had this crap on between the time i was

after market bumper 'update'. i added the iron crosses because i thought they looked 'bad ass'.

i also had updated flag mirrors (cheep vw sh*t), that i thought made it a 'marked improvement' (someone should have kicked my ass for that)

oh and just for more artistic photo 'bad assery' ill post a pic using a star filter showing my 'bling'

thank god they were all reversible mods..
