Hi,
Those style rear bars were installed at the factory and are pretty rare. The one on the 69 does look a little low against the overriders. Here is one fitted to a 73 RS we restored.
Thanks
Alan
Bar looks correct but, it has been mated with standard bumperettes that look to have been hand drilled in the wrong locale. The SWB version and the LWB version are identical in respect to the bar mounting holes. The only distinction between the two is the addition of the rubber trim.

thanks, so they were available in SWB also? it appears that the LWB version has a unique rubber that is shorter to accomodate the bar. I'll say rare, I hadnt seen one as of yet.

I'd also say that there is only one bar for SWB and LWB. "My" opinion is that these started in 1968. I've not seen one in an original picture without the rubber buffer. The way to make these work is to use the rubber buffer from the front guard on the back guard, as the front rubber is shorter.
For the rubber that goes between the bar and the guard you can use one from a 356 Over-rider.
I've been looking at doing these as I have an NOS one, and the guy who made my roof rack says he can do it. There's a guy from Bakersfield who was at the Lit meet with one a couple of years ago, and I've referred a few people to him, but nobody seems to be able to get one from him.

Tube was p/n 901 505 921 00 last published price was $105.62. Shown in LWB Parts Katalog; no indication of a rubber base between the tube and the guard.
Thanks for the info Brad, always good to see you here on the Registry.
Just wanted to add more info. From the previous posts it might appear that the "ram bar" is only applicable for LWB cars, which is simply not true.
Brett Johnson mentions that this bar first appeared in the parts book in 6/67. I don't have that particular update, but I do have one that's dated 11/67 which indicates the bar was available at that time. A copy of that page is shown below.
There's also an issue of Christophorus that I have somewhere that shows an Ivory 1968 model year car going down the assembly line with the bar installed.
Now the earliest record that I can find of the ram bar being used is a car built on Dec 21st 1966 that is pictured below. It's the 100,000 Porsche built, and the car is very well documented and pictured. Here's some images of that car that clearly show the ram bar in use on this Police car. So it certainly was available in the 1967 model year, just "how" available I'm not sure. But based on this particular set of images you could certainly validate it's use on a 1967 car.
I think I'll make a few.
Kool I really like that front bar, I want one now!!
here is my rear bar
Just finished putting on the nudge bar that I got from Bob Chase at Grey Eagle (661. 832. 9148) in Bakersfield that Eric mentioned in above post.
Just to let you know he still offers them, great guy to deal with.
He has moved to the night shift with his regular job, so getting in touch with him takes a day or so, but well worth it!
He will ask you the center to center dimension of your over-riders for best fit, and does include the rubber piece that goes between the bar and the over-rider.
